Honoring Tomorrow's Women Leaders of Oncology

WLO is proud to fund the annual WLO Women Who Conquer Cancer Young Investigator Award, given to women who are reaching new heights in cancer research. Past recipients, chosen by a peer-review process modeled after that of the National Institutes of Health, have contributed to our understanding of how we can identify and treat all forms of cancer. To date, we have funded 9 Young Investigator awards with your generous support.

WLO is also raising funds for a WLO Young Investigator Award Endowment, with a target of $1.35 million by 2026. Please encourage your network of colleagues, family, and friends to support the WLO YIA, which will ensure that female oncology scientists can receive annual research funding for years to come.

One of 2021’s YIA recipient, Elizabeth Zhang-Velten, MD, PhD, is using her grant to continue her investigation on the application of hyperpolarized magnetic resonance spectroscopy for early detection of radiation-induced cardiotoxicity.

“The YIA is an extraordinary distinction that will help me as I pursue a career path that combines research and medicine and has already enabled me to connect with an incredible network of women oncologists with invaluable insights in patient care, research, and career development.”
